This site is geared for men who knows there is a problem in their western world, but isnt too sure about what it is. It combines a variety of topics that can help you find answers to how to make a massive change in your life, and to help you come and visit or live in Cebu Philippines as a part of that change. It combines topics ranging from western men's issues like dealing with western woman, feminists and divorce to dating a Filipina and making the transition to living here in the Philippines.
Not too many sites combine men's issues and visiting or living in the Philippines directly, yet these topics can be very related to one another. That's why I am targeting this site towards western men; It's not covered much directly in other sites and as an American now living in Cebu, I have a deep understanding of the issues and want to see it covered more as well as see it help other western guys frustrated with their current lives in their home country.
Learn About The Philippines - Learn About Cebu
This site is more than just a "men's issues site". It also provides a wide range of practical information about the country, its people, the different ways of life, and a variety of information to help you get on top of the situation so you can have the best visit possible. If you decide to move here, you'll have a leg up on how to handle yourself and avoid problem areas (like over paying for goods and services).
This site does focus more on the island of Cebu and the surrounding islands. While the Philippines is actually one about twice the land mass as the state of Georgia (my home state in the USA), it is composed of over 7 thousand islands and that has created significant diversity. Cebu is very different from Manila and other areas, so we stay focused on Cebu which I believe is the best part of the Philippines to visit and live. Its also the place I know the most.
I wouldnt be living in Cebu today if I didnt think it was a great place to live, but its not Heaven on Earth. I'm not going to candy coat the topics to make it look like its a perfect place to live. There is no perfect place to live on Earth, and the Philippines does have serious problems just like every other place. It may turn out that living in Cebu isnt the right choice for you because the specific problems it has dont match your personality well. I hope this site can point out the good and the bad, so you get a realistic understanding of the place.
What Do I Know About All This?
I used to live in the United States, and was married to the typical middle class western white woman. We were married for 8 years and had children. The last few years of our marriage was pure hell for me, and I knew that if I didnt leave soon, I would die of a heart attack. I was only 35 at the time. Back then I was completely ignorant of the issues of masculinity, feminism, and what a submissive, loving wife could do for a man. It was hard for me, and I wish I had access to a site like this at that time. In fact, I am trying to build up this site to be the ultimate resource for a guy in a similar situation as what I was in.
From a man's perspective, things have gotten way out of hand in places like the United States and Canada, and from my conversations with men in other western countries it's just as bad or worse in many places around the world. It's like the way life should be has been turned upside down and inside out. Schools, churches and other places of education do not teach a man how to be a real man in a way that fits with that deep internal instinct of what feels proper. I grew up without a father, and my mother was a strong feminist. I was never educated about men's issues or what a solid patriarchal family can and should be. However, there was a deep sense of it built into my being and that instinct was constantly reminding me that something was wrong. During my 20s I married and got into the rat race of earn and spend which has a way of keeping you distracted from the real issues and focused on consumerism.
After my divorce, I started reading more about masculinity, feminism and discovered there was a world of men out there in the same boat as me. Its even mentioned in movies like "Fight Club". I stumbled upon the Philippines in early 2005, came out to visit for 2 weeks and was totally blown away by the complete change of lifestyle. I should say that there are many different styles of living in the Philippines, and places like Manila and its surrounding areas are completely different than Cebu. I came to visit Cebu, and got to see the main Cebu City and the provincial towns. It was a very emotional experience for me and I decided right there and then to come and live here for a while. At first it was supposed to be a 4 to 6 month visit, but 4 years have gone by and I'm still here.
Living in Cebu Has Changed My Life
My life has changed completely from living here, and there is still more dramatic changes to come. This site is as much for me as it is for you. I want to refine my thinking on issues like the problems with feminists, government and even what it means to be the head of the household and properly managing a traditional patriarchal family. It may be possible to do these things in certain parts of the United States, but for me the job of it is much easier here in Cebu.
I am fortunate to be able to continue to earn a living by working on the internet doing software development. It's a hard transition, but it is possible to pick up and move here to Cebu and continue to earn a living. Some western men dream of living in the Philippines, but want to wait till they retire to do so. I wanted to do it while I was still young enough to live and enjoy life. However, whether you're older or younger, retired or not, its never too late or too early to start making major change in your life. You can easily setup a lower cost of living, yet high quality, lifestyle here, where there is much less stress on you to earn and spend. If you prepare yourself properly, you can continue to earn a living and just transition you life from you current home country to here.
